Scenes from the California State Fair 2012
SacTV.com "Video of the Day" review by
Alex Cosper on July 14, 2012
The California State Fair at Cal Expo got under way this past week, opening on Thursday, July 12, running
through Sunday, July 29. This video shows scenes of the Fair from an outsider's perspective. Although parking
lots were closer to full than empty, there's a sense that the response to this year's fair, like so many in
the past, is somewhat lackluster. The scenes show the ferris wheel and monorail, which might just be the
most exciting thing the fair has to offer at Cal Expo. The biggest acts performing at this year's fair on the
Golden 1's Gold Circle stage are Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, the Fab Four (Beatles tribute), Mickey Dolenz, Grass Roots, Gary Puckett,
The Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie, Buckinghams, Rick Springfield, Dave Mason and Jim Messina.
This year marks the 159th year of the state fair, which moved to the Cal Expo location in 1968.
The state fair opens Monday through Thursday at 11am and closes at 10pm. On Fridays through Sundays it's
open from 10am to 10pm. Cost of admission is $12 except for seniors 62 and over, which is $10, children
ages 5 through 12, which is $8 while children 4 and under get free admission. Even though parking is $10,
there are plenty of places to park for free in the Arden Fair area. More information about the fair can
be found at Bigfun.org.
